Summer has finally arrived, with long days of our Pacific Northwest light and the warmth we've been waiting for. Coming from Vermont, I am still astonished at how large everything grows here in the mild climate. Each plant I add to my gardens grows bigger than I expect and the pruning, weeding and moving plants around is endless. But the reward is rich color and texture. The delight is endless. Above is a view from my studio last summer, an ever-changing canvas of greens and blossoms. The painting below is about the quality of summer light on trees and water.
